On Monday, September 15th, 2014, the Houston Ducks helped sponsor a hole at the Home of Hope Charity Golf Tournament in Cypress, TX. The tournament, consisting of 21 four-person teams, was held at the Black Horse Golf Club. We had four Houston Ducks players, along with two of our co-owners, representing the Ducks at the event. Also with us at Hole 9 was long-drive world champion Bobby Wilson! We were proud to be able to help out and show support to the Home of Hope, which is a remarkable and laudable charity organization.
Here is a little more about the Home of Hope, borrowed from their website (www.homeofhopetexas.org):
“Home of Hope Texas was established to provide a place of refuge and safety for adolescent victims of human trafficking. We exist to provide long term care, rehabilitation, and healing for victims of modern-day-slavery and sexual abuse. Our goal is to see these children regain value and self worth; to re-enter our society with their head held high and to live successful, productive lives. If possible we work to reunite the children with their family or place them into loving family environments, where they will receive the love and support they need for the rest of their lives.”
The tournament began at 9:30 AM and lasted until around 2:30 PM. Bobby Wilson provided everyone with lots of laughter. Every foursome had to do a long drive at our hole, and Mr. Wilson would add the 5th stroke. Whoever’s ball traveled the greater distance towards the hole would become the ball that the foursome would next use to tee off from. Everyone got their pictures taken with him as well. The photographer at our hole, who was a part of the Home of Hope organization, was friendly and a pleasure to work with all day as well.
Giving back to the community, whether volunteering for a charity or hosting a charitable event of our own, will always be one of the Houston Ducks main purposes. When our team began in 2012, we were always driven to incorporate community service and volunteerism into our organization at every level.
